According to the legend the village of Bozhentsi is with a history more than 600 years. The legend tell us about the noble woman Bozhana - in 1393 the capitol Tarnovo was conquest by the Ottomans, and Bozhana run away to the deep forests of the Balkan, next to a small river. She settled down on the north side of Stara planina and established Bozhentsi.
The village is located near to the old Roman road Nikopolis ad Istrum – Augusta Trayana – Constantinople. The rising of Bozhentsi was at 18th and 19th century. The merchants from the village traded in whole Ottoman empire, Russia, Austria, Italy.
You will have the unique opportunity to visit the archeological complex of museums located in the typical village houses. One of them is the Museum house “Baba Raina”, one of the oldest buildings preserved in Bozhentsi. It was built during the French Revolution. And today is houses the ethnographic exposition of 18th century. Museum house “Doncho Popov”. Another great choice is the museum house “Doncho Popov”, a trade house from the early 19th century. The owner was one of the wealthiest merchants of wool and fur in Bozhentsi. See the unforgettable Mengema, a workshop for purifying beeswax from the beginning of 19th century.
After the archeological complex you will continue your trip to an original Bulgarian creamery, where you will taste the best Bulgarian cheeses and yogurt.
