Day Trip to Iskar Gorge

Discover the pearl in the tourist necklace of Bulgaria by visiting one of the most beautiful mountains and its heritage.

From Sofia go to one of the biggest mountains along the side of river Iskar and the train line passing by the road. You will have the chance to enjoy and explore the most picturesque and exciting sightseeing and history.

We will take you to a private tour by car along the amazing mountains by the side of one of the biggest rivers in Bulgaria, and see the railway lines and passing trains. 

First stop by a beautiful waterfall and have the chance to explore and walk around it. It is a natural miracle carved out of the Stara Planina. Along the mountain for thousands of years the waters of the Iskar River have dug their way into the rock. There are couple of smaller ones, as well as some small river coming from the mountain and in to the river Iskar which can be seen while driving alongside. After that you will head to a very important historical place that is only a few kilometers further down from your first stop. You will have the chance to easily get higher up the mountain and enjoy a picturesque view while learning about the history. After you have explored and taken some pictures you will stop for lunch surrounded by mountain sightseeing.

Last but not least, before heading back to Sofia, visit a great mountain deep by the side of a small river that goes in to Iskar. There are a lot of things worth seeing, like how and where monasteries where built, and learning more about their history. The Iskar Gorge starts from the Sofia Plain, crosses the Balkan and ends around the town of Cherven Bryag, the total length is 155 kilometers. You will be taken half-way along this road, which will give you the chance to have unforgettable day tour.
